    The Turk’s Head, Leeds

    March 20, 2016 /

Positioned down a Dickensian style alleyway, behind the 300 year old Whitelocks, is a new venue, called The Turk’s Head. It used to be a function room for Whitelocks, which was rarely used, and in such a prime location it was crying out to be opened. It would have been easy to simply extend Whitelocks into this space, but the owners have done something much more exciting with it. They got in the incredibly talented Lord Whitney (original creators of The Wood Beneath the World), who transformed the space into something unique, and breathtakingly stylish, that blends old and new perfectly. It has the wiles of a 1920s gin joint, but also the charm and warmth of…

    Getting Hands On

    April 17, 2013 /

I don’t often enter competitions, but I was approached to take part in Carex’s Live Life Hands On Awards and decided to try my hand at it, (sorry). The competition is based on a day in the life of your hands, and you can represent this in any way you like really; written word, video, photos etc. I opted for visual, so tinkered about with a new app called Instapic. This is the result: It made me focus on how my hands enable me to interact with everything, from the mundane of dish washing, to comforting and caring for my little girl. Let’s not forget the all important tea drinking…

    Menorca Time!

    June 3, 2011 /

I just got back from a blissful week in Menorca. We’re really lucky as Mr M’s family has a flat out there, so we get to go quite often. All the buildings are desgined in the same style, and kind of spill down to the sea. It’s a beautiful place, and the bobbly style of the buildings reminds me of the goblin city in The Labyrinth (only prettier!), which can only be good! We spent the week doing pretty much nothing! I loved it. I got the most sleep I’ve had in ages, and each morning Mr M would pop off and buy us fresh croissants, then we’d sit on…

March of Dimes at The Brudenell Social Club

    May 22, 2011 /

March of Dimes played the Brudenell at last!! HURRAH. They are my favourite Leeds band, but then Mr M is the bass player, so I am perhaps a tiny bit on the biased side. If you don’t live in Leeds, or haven’t heard of the Brudenell, it’s a fantastic gig venue in Leeds. It’s set out in an old cabaret style, and is an intimate setting for a fantastic range of artists. The Brudenell is a gem of a venue for the local music scene in Leeds, but it’s reputation is such that it also attracts bands large and small from around the world. It’s a very relaxed place, and…
