Local Asparagus from Horsforth, Leeds

Each year I bang on about how amazing fresh, locally grown asparagus is (see posts from 2011 and 2012), and this year is no different. Due to the cold weather, the season has been delayed this year, but with the recent sunshine the asparagus is now leaping out of the ground.

I always go to the local farm in Horsforth, Leeds, as you can buy asparagus picked that very day and for a great price too (£2 per bunch, or 3 bunches for £5). It is sweet, tender and the freshest you’ll find. The supermarket varieties don’t even come close to this quality.

My favourite lunch at the moment is poached eggs fresh from the chooks, asparagus fresh from the farm, served with toasted sourdough, fresh from Mr M. Delicious.
