    Northern Monk Refectory, Leeds

    September 24, 2015 /

Northern Monk Refectory is foundĀ round the back of Leeds station, across the canal, in Holbeck. Please, don’t let that put you off – it’s only 5 minutes walk from central Leeds, and well worth it. The Refectory is on the first floor, and beneath itĀ is the brewery, where many delicious beers are created. Like the monks before us, Northern Monk is commited to creating the highest quality beers combining the best of traditional monastic brewing values with a progressive approach to ingredients and techniques. I love their ethos, and I love their venue. Stone floors, wooden tables, brick walls and a whole raft of beer on tap. However, as I…

    Grubstaker Launch Night

    May 8, 2014 /

Last week saw us at Leeds Food & Drink Association launch our Grubstakers scheme (supporters of LFDA). It was an evening filled with WINE and Food Deliciousness, all hosted in the private dining room at Salvos. It was so exciting to get a group of our new Grubstakers together, as they were all there because they love the fantastic, independent food and drink businesses within Leeds. What a collaboration it was… we had bruschetta from Mario, charcuterie from Friends of Ham, stew made by a further collaboration of Swillington Organic Farm‘s produce and Lazy Lounge‘s amazing chef, cheese from George & Joseph, and to round it all off, baklavas from…

Leeds Food & Drink Association Launches Grubstakers

    April 7, 2014 /

I have been a little distracted recently, as I’ve been working on a new project with fellow food fan, Nick Copland. We’ve been setting up Leeds Food & Drink Association, which has the aim of promoting Leeds as a city that is passionate about great food and drink. It’s exciting times. We have incredible members (check them out here) – they’re some of our food and drink heroes. It’s all just beginning to take off, and the first official event is the launch of Grubstakers (excellent word, no?!). The event promises to be amazing. How couldn’t it be when it involves the likes of Latitude Wine, Salvos, Friends of Ham,…

The Goose! Swillington Organic Farm, Leeds

    January 7, 2014 /

This year we banished all traces of turkey through the festive season and chose goose as our feasting centrepiece on Christmas Day. We ordered it weeks in advance from Swillington Organic Farm, which produces high quality, organic and free range meat that you know has been reared properly; animal welfare is at the core of this fantastic family farm in Leeds. The customer service was brilliant. We had regular updates, and were reminded when we could collect it, how to pay the balance etc. All very handy for the likes of us. So Emilia and I took a trip out on the 23rd December to collect The GOOSE! It was…
